Should I launch on TikTok Shop or Amazon?
TikTok Shop if you have video content + a sub-$50 product. Amazon if you have search-driven demand + supply-chain depth. They optimize for opposite buyer behaviors.
TikTok Shop is content-driven
The platform rewards brands that produce 10+ pieces of native short-form video per week and have a sub-$50 product that's impulse-buyable. Beauty, snack food, single-SKU gadgets, supplement teasers — these win.
If you don't have content capacity, TikTok Shop's algorithm won't surface you. You'll be invisible.
Amazon is search-driven
Buyers find you by typing what they want. Amazon rewards listing optimization, A+ content, and ability to handle FBA's supply-chain demands. Higher-AOV products ($75+) often work better here than on TikTok.
The cost is you compete on every search page with private-label dupes — Amazon's algorithm is brand-neutral.
The honest both-platform path
Start where your existing content + product fit. If you're already producing video for IG/TikTok, launch TikTok Shop first. If you have a polished listing-ready product with reviews on your DTC site, Amazon FBA first. Don't try both before $200K MRR — the ops burden kills you.
