What is Shopify Flow?
Shopify Flow is a free workflow automation tool for triggering actions on store events. Available on all paid plans. Replaces 80% of what Zapier-style integrations used to do for Shopify.
The definition
Shopify Flow = native automation builder in Shopify admin. Trigger (order placed, customer created, inventory low) → Condition (filter by tags, value, geography) → Action (tag customer, send email, create draft order, call API).
Free on Shopify Basic and above. Replaces a meaningful chunk of what brands previously used Zapier or n8n for.
High-value workflows
(1) Tag VIP customers (LTV > $500). (2) Auto-tag high-risk orders for manual review. (3) Send a fraud-team alert on orders >$1,000. (4) Trigger inventory reorder when stock drops below threshold. (5) Block discount stacking. (6) Tag refund-prone customers for win-back exclusion.
Where Flow falls short
Anything requiring complex logic, multi-step branching, or external system integration beyond simple HTTP calls. For that, n8n self-hosted ($5/mo on a VPS) or Zapier ($30/mo) still wins. But Flow handles 80% of common cases for free.
